Curious if anyone even bothered to read that manifesto. That is a very interesting document and it is not helpful that matters directly addressed in it are not even discussed. For example, raise your hand if you knew that the "knight" in question and his gang have given a 2020 deadline to EU and that "until that date" this group will opt out of using "nuclear terrorism".
Many Norwegians will make it a point not to read that manifesto. I surely won't. He murdered dozens of children to gain attention to his cause -- we should not reward him by giving him that attention he seeks. As for his "gang" (if you can call it that, it may be fantasy, it may be one or two like-minded folk he met on the internet) we let the authorities track that down and deal with this so-called 2020 deadline or whatever. ("Maybe, except for whatever intelligence can be gleaned that might help save lives in the future, we don’t give a damn why he did it.") The murderer is spending his time now in solitary confinement and will be kept out of the eyes of the media. Norway is not a media-frenzied country anyways. I'm trying not to look at his name as much as possible. I do not want to remember it, I will not give him free rental space in my brain. I'll reserve that for the families of the victims. Norway is a small country. Everyone knows someone who was touched by this. 8 of the children were from my area. I know two people who know families that were touched -- and I don't even know that many people. Once the school year starts and we see folks from the school community again, I'm sure we'll be finding a lot more.
Mike, I was about to post a message but thank God I re-read yours and noted the "we". I really do not feel comfortable opining to a Norwegian regarding this matter. That said, as a non-Norwegian who may possibly has something to be concerned about (should and if this event is not just one person going off the reservation) I maintain the original pov. I can defend this, but have elected not to given the above consideration.
Sorry if I came across as overly sensitive -- I don't want to make you uncomfortable opining anything. You have some interesting and valuable viewpoints.
