(4) If the West turned their backs on these people now then ISIS propaganda chiefs would have a field day using that bit of information to show people that "the west doesn't want you", creating an "us against them" mentality which makes people more prone to join their cause. I honestly think that was the entire intention behind the Paris attacks: to get Europe to close their borders

Their plan is clearly stated: They want western (read: Christian) powers to put their boots on the ground in Raqqa because they believe a holy prophecy that the final battle will be won there between Islam and Christianity.

All of their atrocities are simply trying to ratchet up the outrage, so we will go engage them in their holy war, in the place where the prophecy says they will win.

The western powers, therefore, vowed to put no boots on the ground.

Then Russia broke ranks, and ISIS cheered. The Paris attacks, in my opinion, were to push those scales further toward invasion, rather than containment.

The French government has fallen for the ploy and declared war on ISIS, next to Russia. (Talk about weird bedfellows! Hello? History calling... hello? Anyone home?)

And the problem with putting boots on the ground is that only ends in the total genocide of ISIS. And what happens then? ISIS V2.0 sprouts up in its place. Martyrdom. The only practical solution is to treat Raqqa as a classic medieval siege; bottle them up, and starve them out.

(2) We have a moral responsibility to help our fellow man

Unlike others in this thread, I agree with you here. But for a practical reason: If we give a home to refugees, one where they can practice their religion unmolested, where they can work and make a living wage, where their kids can go to school, and all the other promises that America stands for, I think this is the greatest deterrent to radicalization.

Yes, we have our problems in America. But as someone who lived in the Balkans during the wars there, I can tell you that our problems don't even cause a blip on the radar of a refugee or someone escaping a war zone.

Give people a home and a chance. That's it. That's what people get when they come to America... a chance.

That's more than any of these people are getting back in Syria.
