Almost done with book two of Game of Thrones. May take a short break from the series, my roommate has been reading American Psycho, and I'm tempted to try it as well so I can understand why it's been keeping him up at night.

American Psycho was the book that got Brett Easton Ellis kicked off of Doubleday, as I recall.

Here's the thing: it's vapid. It's a vapid book by a vapid man about a vapid culture. There's a lot of shock bullshit in it but it's shock bullshit. There are no great truths in American Psycho beyond "we don't really know each other" which is pretty much every book Ellis has ever written.

If Stephen King had never met a human before, and didn't care to, American Psycho is the book he'd write.

Yeesh. That book really upset me. Be warned if you've seen the movie it's pretty tame in comparison.

I've seen the movie two or three times now, and it didn't strike me as too nightmare-inducing, outside one or two intense scenes. From what I've heard, the quantity of clothing, music, murder, and freaking out is much higher in the books though.
