Dude, Forbidden Planet wasn't pulp. Robbie himself cost $125k back in '57 - there was a Wheaties tie-in to name him. Thing took up like half the Culver stage for the better part of a year. First movie to feature a miniskirt, by the way. Scandalous. Sure, it was no Ben Hur but have you seen Ben Hur? And it cost $15m. Forbidden Planet was like $2m which is still crazy expensive for '58.

Never mind the fact that it's a retelling of Shakespeare's The Tempest.

Pulp.

Humph.

The lines of these things get blurry for me from time to time. :)

As evidenced by your grouping of Forbidden Planet with The Blob. Next you'll be comparing When Worlds Collide to Robot Monster.

Communist. I will pray for you.

Swear I've posted this before, but apparently not.

In my defense, I'm new to the genre, so I'm comparing things on a stylistic, superficial level. I don't know my Asminov from my Bova, my Analog from my Forbidden Worlds. I'm getting there though. :)
