After taking a picture of the supermoon the other day, and the wife having recently completed a photography course, we took the opportunity to experiment with some effects that you can do with free alternatives to Photoshop. So in Paint.net I created the image on the left, using the standard filters etc. She loved the effect it produced, so I made some attempt on the right to replicate it using GIMP and Ruby to generate a SVG as with last time. The code can be found and hacked with on Codepen.io, you'll have to excuse the large embedded png as it was a quick way to include the shadow part without having to trace it in as another SVG or host the png somewhere else on the internet. Oh and yes, the decision was made to use black as the dark blue.. really did not work for the code version; that said everything can be replaced and tweaked including changing how many bars/drops/stars/lines it generates, how thick they are etc.
My other effort with GIMP has turned into a pretty cool t-shirt design that I may just have to learn screen-printing to do it justice (or spend £100 with a local printers! No thanks!), anybody got experience with that?
This is the T-Shirt design, very low low low resolution copy as I don't know if I'll be doing anything with it yet, but full size it practically glows! Edit: The background colour is a close version of what I could actually get it printed on, but again it's £100 for ten :(
