It's crazy what sportscasters are willing to talk about to fill in the air. I wonder how many scripts prewritten, clips preshot for these situations. This shit is boring enough when they're prepared. Can you imagine how awful it would be if they had to pull shit out of their ass?
"I agree, Smokey Yunick was a cheat among cheats, rules lawyer among rules lawyers. Could you imagine being a GM and playing D&D with that guy? He'd min-max his character to hell and back with gear out of non-core books and play with weighted dice."
"Hey, we haven't talked Dodge in forever. Why is that? Oh yeah. They don't have a NASCAR program. You hear that often repeated rumor on the internet that Mercedes is thinking about running a few cars next season? Ever since them, Nissan, and Volvo started racing V8s in Australia, they've really been taking American motorsports more seriously. Except . . . you know . . . they haven't."
"You hear how the NFL is trying to keep a tight leash on all of their players to make their sport more sponsor friendly? You'd figure they'd learn from us and our dying viewership that that's a bad idea."
God, I know it's not a real Camry, I just wish Toyota had a cooler nameplate they could run under . . .
They've also tinkered too much with the playoff system. I started watching back in '02, where it was just a season long accumulation of points. Then they switched to the chase format in '06, which wasn't so bad. Then a few years ago they switched it to a round elimination format? I'm not sure, it was around that switch that I stopped caring. Of course any point system is arbitrary, but switching it up every year does not help legitimize the champions in your sport.
I fail at reading comprehension. It was a funny joke, just not as funny as if it were real. Does anyone actually weight 20-sided dice? I confess I've never played D&D, but I have made weighted dice for magic tricks. The easy microwave trick for 6-sided dice isn't going to work, at least not reliably enough to be worth doing, you'd have to do the stick-lead-or-something-in-the-pip thing, and with the pips being digits that would be a pain in the ass.
I can't imagine anyone going to the effort of making weighted D20s or figuring out how to shave them to get more favorable rolls. That said, I can't imagine it would take much effort on find dice that roll in your favor slightly more often . . .
A bunch of these guys must love it, they're talking to fricking Michael Annett and Michael McDowell... when is the last time you heard those names without talking of in the garage or wreck being involved. When's the last time you saw either of them on fricking tv out of a car for that matter? Can't believe NBCommercial didn't have a contingency infomercial to go to during this.
Seeing as how I so infrequently watch now, never. I actually had to look up Michael Annett. That said, it's kind of a relief not caring that much about sports, only watching when the mood suits you. Can you imagine how much extra effort it takes to keep track of everything? One of my co-workers is a HUGE college football fan. He must be some kind of genius to be able to stay on top of it all. Now the local news is on. They can cut back to the track drying any time now. When's the last time you saw either of them on fricking tv out of a car for that matter?
There was a time I could name every sponsor and driver on 43-46 cars, now I know most of the major ones, some of the lower ones, I just don't have the energy to put into it. I feel like the current France has hindered my enjoyment with constant rule and championship changes in the last 5-10 years. I'd rather sit down and enjoy it when I can than spend 30-40 hours a week making a fantasy yahoo team these days.
Dude. Football, Baseball, NASCAR, they all suddenly seem a bit more fun once you stop caring. There's no commitment on your end to watch every event and pay attention to every follow up, so you can rally just enjoy the moment. As for NASCAR in particular, I always just cheer for Biffle. He's not great, he's not awful, but he's consistently decent.
Not true, FS1 has Major League Soccer playoffs on tonight... har har har.
Maybe it's just me, but football is so much easier to watch than soccer (basketball tol). Soccer, there's all this running around left and right and it's constant without much going on. Football? There's a setup, an action, and then a moment to have the results analyzed. NASCAR? I just like loud cars.
That sounds pretty fair. Football fans and sports commentors both seem to love talking numbers. It makes perfect sense why fantasy football is getting more popular every year. It lets those guys put those numbers to use. As far as racing is concerned, NASCAR is still one of the better ones to watch. F1 and Indy are way sterilized with their rules (which are obviously needed due to the risks of open wheel racing), drag racing and quarter mile circle track racing are only fun in person and in small amounts. It might be boring to watch at times, but at least with NASCAR there's shit happening that leads to position changes. That said, going to a Formula D event has replaced going to a NASCAR event on my list of shit to check out. You ever been to a drift event? That shit's bananas."Football" is "Soccer" for lawyers.
