Random fact for people who don't know. In media when you see a bald eagle calling, it's usually a voice over from a hawk. Why? Cause even though bald eagles are massive birds and true mother fuckers you don't want to mess with, their call sounds kind of wimpy, like a sea gull almost. Edit: Now I'm on Youtube playing random bird calls while the whole family hangs out on the couch. This is living.
Bald eagles are glorified fish hawks. They mostly eat dumpster trash. They often get beat up by crows and ravens and seagulls. They're lazy fucks that will hunt if they have to but more often than not they'll eat dead shit left by bears. They're the turkey vultures of the Pacific Northwest. Although one did carry away a girlfriend's mom's miniature schnauzer once. That was pretty rad. Yappy little piece of shit.
I don't think I'd want to get into a fist fight with either a bald eagle or a turkey vulture. ;) Smaller birds also have a tendency to harass the fuck out of larger birds. It's actually kind of cool to watch how even little songbirds can turn into feisty little beasts if they think their territory is being imposed upon. It's not an uncommon sight around here to see hawks flying away from anywhere from 2 to 6 smaller birds as they chase it across the sky, diving in and out.
