Background: wasoxygen and I bet that Trump would not be inaugurated Jan 20. The bet started as a $20 2:1 odds affair, but as some of you will remember I opened to the floor, as well. The only other person who took me up on it was byonic. So I owe $40 to HUbski to settle those bets. I'm going to round up to $50 to account for anyone I may have missed, but please do let me know if I did miss you, and we can square up, too. I'll also remind, lil, ecib, and blackbootz of their intentions to donate to Hubski should Trump actually make it to inauguration day.
Just as an aside, for me, the Obama era started with a huge party, the best feeling the city of Detroit has even experienced, and a general sense that the world was evolving in a direction we could be proud of. Symbolically, the last night of Obama's presidency had this in store for me:
Kind of hilarious (if not for the critically injured person in the SRX and my poor, brand new Malibu) that the symbolism fit so well. So to all of you, pay up! It's good to have a place like Hubski to retreat to when Trump is in the news--and he'll be in the news, real and fake, for a long time to come.
Hopefully, he'll just resign once his portrait is complete. On that note, wasoxygen and I are convening a new bet, slightly longer term, regarding the length of Trump's tenure. The language reads as follows:
- b_b and wasoxygen hereby agree to donate two hundred eight (208) United States dollars to Hubski.com, sharing the obligation according to the number of weeks before President Donald Trump is removed from office by impeachment. Should the president be removed from office by impeachment during the first week following inauguration (on or before 27 January 2017) wasoxygen will donate the entire amount. For each additional week that passes without a successful and complete impeachment, b_b will assume one dollar of the obligation from wasoxygen. Should President Trump remain in office at the end of four years, b_b will donate the entire amount.
Should President Trump leave office before a full four-year term for reasons other than impeachment, b_b and wasoxygen will share the obligation equally.
Any other takers?
You must be shaken. That picture and moreso, the experience, must be traumatizing....I very much hope the other driver recovers and your insurance doesn't soar. At first glance, it seemed a person in a white shirt was lying next to your car. As for bets, thanks for the reminder. My 2000-day hubskiversary is coming up in one week. I intend to make my donation then. Meanwhile, your 2000-hubday comes a week later, a few others follow hard soon after.
Meh. My car was parked peacefully, so I was not involved. It was a rare one person, four car incident. They informed us that she lived at least an hour after the accident, so they didn't consider it a crime scene (which is fortunate from the overall headache perspective). On the upside, I got to go car shopping yesterday, which is always fun!
Not sure yet. I only drive GM, so those are my options. After looking at all the incentives it there right now, my heart says Silverado, but my wallet says Cruze RS hatchback. The Terrain also had good incentives at the moment, but I really don't like them. Anyway I haven't actually gotten official word that my car is totaled, but I strongly suspect it will be. The wire back end, incline the frame and c-pillars are fucked. The car is worth about $19k, so reaching the 75% threshold won't be too hard under those circumstances.
All rear end damage though might be worth buying back and reselling. Salvage folk love cars like that might make an extra couple grand for the hassle. Why the GM loyalty? Work related or otherwise? The Cruze wouldn't be my first pick for 20k but that's just me. A used Silverado that I could get behind. Probably the best used full size truck for the money.
My wife is GM white collar, so the lease deals I qualify for are sometimes unreal. It depends on the month though, so right now the three I mentioned above are what they're offering for a price. I doubt I'd be too excited to drive a Cruze (and the sticker on a loaded RS is like $29k), but I only lease for 24mo at a stretch, so not a big deal.
29k for a Cruze ! Holy crap. Hopefully they give you a $200/month lease or some other super sweet deal. The Hatch back looks pretty good though. A lot better than their previous itterations and a solid contender with the ford focus. Not sure why one would chose one over the other .
This is one bet I'm sad to lose. I think I'll give fate another chance to both remove Trump from office and have me give money to Hubski by matching wasoxygen's side of the bet again. If I understood that right, that means the sooner Trump is removed from office the more I pay.
Yes, the way we structured it, we'll split the number of weeks at a dollar per week. The total money going to Hubski will be $208 no matter what happens, $1 for every week from now until Jan 20, 2021. He starts at $208 and for every week that elapses, $1 becomes my responsibility instead of his.
Paid up. And included the cost that _refugee_ paid to ship her rendition of Klimt's The Kiss as a gift to my house in my donation. It's nice to see the donate goal somewhat at parity with our progress through the year (~5%).
