And challenges and humbles in a good way. I don't think it's embarrassing to try and not succeed in making my summit. It's a skill knowing when it's too much. It isn't embarrassing, but it is humbling. And it can humble the experienced along with the new. Thinking about what can be learned from hiking up mountains, learning it's ok to try and fail has been valuable for me. Similarly, the success of trying has been good for my mental health. Failing gracefully and succeeding with great effort and risk of failure is something I never really learned before.
