- It seems unlikely that so many bowtied white Republicans are genuine fans of hip-hop, especially after decades of right-wing commentators lambasting the genre. And yet, our friends on the right return to the genre again and again, writing out syncopated, semi-comedic ditties about how much they love America and how much they hate liberals. The simplest explanation for this is that conservatives consider hip-hop inherently comical and illegitimate, a reflection of their larger disdain for black culture. But rather than voice their grievances through pop-country or Ted Nugent-style butt rock, they attempt to rap.
I was inspired to post this after the Eminem diss towards Trump.
What's funny, though, is you can be conservative and like rap. Because while we were all busy looking down our noses at those goddamn white trash rednecks, they were busy racking up tens of millions of Youtube views with Jason Aldean: Racking up tens of millions of views with songs about big tires and mud bogging: "Meth labs and moonshine", y'all. 2:07, folx. Tell me that dude voted Hillary.
