As usual, I've been lagging pretty hard on Sci-Fi Club.
I've rounded up a few suggestions from the last round, but trimmed it down a bit. It's surprisingly tricky to keep track of everything, so sorry if something you wanted got dropped. As always feel free to chime in with suggestions.
Also I added some more people to the list who I had neglected previously. If the ping annoys you let me know and I can take you off.
I also enjoyed the General Discussion last time. What did people think of that?

FOR THE RECORD: The Martian Chronicles (the anthology of short stories) is good. The Martian Chronicles (the 1980 adaptation of said-same) is not. Fans of sci fi should read the stories. Fans of schlock who enjoy seeing just how bad sci fi gets when supertrain eats several years' worth of budgets should probably watch The Martian Chronicles alone, in the dark, with some cheap bourbon. Even if it was Richard Matheson. Yeah. Of the four suggestions, three of them (if you count the Martian Chronicles miniseries) are Richard Matheson.
1) The Martian Chronicles - I haven't seen it. I mean come one - Rock Hudson and Roddy McDowall !!! Plus I've seen the others. 2) Happy to read Born of Man and Woman too as it's so short. On a related note - I finally caved and started reading The Hyperion Cantos - let's see how that goes.
I made it halfway through the first book. Granted, I eyerolled pretty hard at the guy playing bach in the swamp on his space organ ON HIS SPACESHIP and they never got me back.
My initial reaction isn't too good either - about 1/4 way through and I feel assaulted with exposition and left wondering why he chose these garish caricatures? I am stubborn though and willing to plough through the whole book and then see how I feel about continuing the series but I'm wary.
The short story wasn't my cup of tea. It felt more like a horror story than just sci-fi. I liked Groundhog Day. Stories about time travel are fun. I am Legend was a great story and the film was fun. The Martian Chronicles? I've heard of it. Is that by the same guy who wrote Dune?
The Martian Chronicles is Ray Bradbury of Fareheitt 451 fame. Dune is Frank Herbert of Dune fame. It’s written sort of like a collection of short stories. I actually read it back in middleschool, of all places, and it’d be interesting to compare it now to my memories of it back then, which were of being pretty bored.
Is the Martian Chronicles of the same series as that Princess of Mars movie? I believe they called it John Carter. That was a good movie. It wasn't as heralded as it should have been.
Born of man and woman is quick. Of the two Mathesons you've got there, give with the one that didn't take 23 revisions to the shooting script and three endings after languishing in development hell for 20 years. And while groundhog day looks like sci fi, it could just as easily be buddhist. Live die repeat is the same movie with more lasers and aliens. The Martian Chronicles is also a miniseries. It's on YouTube. It wasn't great at the time, but having seen it at age 5 allow me to say that it stuck with me.
> However often you can manage it is often enough. Don't beat yourself up. Absolutely! 100% agree.
