Interesting fact: Ian Fleming named James Bond after an ornithologist because it was the ‘dullest name’ he’d ever heard. The original name for James Bond was ‘James Secretan’; Ian Fleming took the eventual name from the author of a book on birds.
More interesting fact: Ian Fleming based the character on James Bond on his buddy Roald Dahl, author of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, British spy on the Americans and sometime confidant of Eleanor Roosevelt. Ian Fleming went out on exactly one OSS training mission and freaked the fuck out; he wasn't cut out for it. Meanwhile Roald Dahl had been shot down twice and reported directly to Intrepid.
