Tigran Hamasyan was one of my favourite discoveries of last year. He possesses an inimitable blend of of styles and approaches to composition.
Particular hypnotising to me is his use of rhythm, which is why I was excited to see this video pop up in my subscriptions. It's nerdy music theory stuff, but what is Hubski for if not for interesting, nerdy things?
Yo. I listen to his music all day long. Seen him live and met him a bunch of times-- even had dinner with him once. He's an actual genius, rhythm isn't even the half of it. Just regarding musicianship, I've seen him do so many fucked up things to a piano that I can't even begin to get into it. The fact that a lot of his melodies are based on Armenian folk songs is personally very sweet too, he grew up in a village in Armenia and borrows heavily, especially in his first album A Fable.
