There is a well-defined process for how this pandemic will end.
Politicians and other idiots can spout their plans and intentions and goals, but science is science and viruses are viruses and human health is human health.
The way this will end is already known.
And no leader is saying what they all know: This is going to take a year.
We all already know the basic steps:
1. Social distancing and return to work timeframes will be artificially shortened
2. That will lead to a resurgence in lethal cases
3. More people will die
4. Restrictions will be re-established. (Too late. Again.)
5. The virus will mutate into several strains with different characteristics.
6. A lot more people will die.
7. Then the "flu season" will hit. People will be tired of this shit, and stop following precautions. Because they are bored. They have been out of work for 6 months, at this point. Everyone is restless and bitter.
8. A huge resurgence in cases (and deaths) will hit just before winter.
9. Millions will die.
10. The entire fall/winter will see the entire US on lockdown, as other countries send help: food, professionals, medical supplies, etc.
11. Spring 2021, the survivors will carefully poke their head out of their caves. The majority of the US will be unemployed. A vaccine will emerge. People will get injections. The economy will stumble back to work again.
12. ...
This article does a good job of laying out the future path of the virus, and how we get out of it.
And exactly why we will fail to rise to this challenge, and suffer the sequence of events I listed above.
