A lot of people are disappointed, wishing for a longer sentence, but I'm most disappointed that the momentum behind police reform has more or less evaporated without any meaningful changes. "Defund the police" was always a doomed bit of messaging. "Demilitarize the police" should be something everyone agrees on. If it took more money to better train police in stuff like conflict de-escalation and somehow de-fetishizing the "warrior hero" mindset that some police seem to have, fine, tax me.
It is a training problem and yeah, it will take money to solve. Problem is, you (and I) are in the minority about being ok with having our taxes raised to help solve the problem.
It's a culture problem. If we don't fix the policing culture of "I am the warrior hero", "I am the law", no amount of extra training and extra money is going to be enough.
I can't speak to the culture but I know for a fact their training is minimal due to taxpayers not wanting to pay for anything better and the fact that anything outside of the police academy is paid for by the individual.
