I dunno if the title is rhetorical or tongue-in-cheek or serious, but I can assure you that I, for one, have no desire to laugh at the absurdity in Florida. It's a very clear, measurable decay of society back towards Jim Crowe-style oppression targeting the "T" of LGBT, right now, but I can assure you that they'll work their way backward from there. It's many more states than just Florida now, too. Truly disgusting regressivism.

Can't speak to UCF, but I spent a few years at Texas A&M, and I've no doubt that even as far back as 15 years ago, the cultures are similar.

DeSantis won't win the primary. There have been some obvious gaffes lately, along with the fact that he hasn't announced. I'm starting to think he won't, and he'll save his candidacy for 2028. He really is a very, very strange man.

Yeah sorry, most of this was in a draft format and then katakowsj commented and bumped it back up on my radar. I've gotta lotta unpublished drafts.

Hang in there, Florida man. I'm afraid you're condemned to another couple DeSantis governorships, but at least the cancer isn't spreading outside of the state.? Trump probably won't beat Biden, either, unless McCarthy forces a debt default and successfully pins it on Biden, which isn't completely impossible. What a world.

I hink I can empathize some, being a teacher in Michigan. We provided the world with Betsy DeVos and her continually lament her working to obliterate good public education. for all as she seems tto also desire some Jim Crow version of education making us into ultra- coservative right wing 1It's sad. It's scary. Sometimes we gotta laugh at how f-ed ip it is.Sorry Florida. Thereare people that need to answer for their egoist folly thnat makes is laugh at you so much. You make us uncomfortable with the ignorant things you say and do.

He can’t announce until the Republican FL congress amends the “resign to run” law that is in place for Florida politicians. Otherwise, there is a vacancy. It looks kooky from the outside looking in as he teases people during his (literal) world-tour. He’s busy admiring the cherry blossoms in Japan while we’re still dealing with the aftermath of freak flooding in South Florida.

Not aware of the gaffes mentioned, but I saw him start to get negative press across the spectrum of news stations last week. That, coupled with the Disney law suit that dropped today makes me excited to be wrong about his primary bid.

Hanging in there has been a weird ride. Really enjoyed the videos in your trip report. Making me long for something other than flat, forest and bogs.

Anywho, we’ll see how this serious season pans out. Sending patience your way for dealing with Abbott et al. o7

Yes, very familiar with the "oh but TECHNICALLY I HAVEN'T ANNOUNCED MY CANDIDACY YET" situation (just watch the first 10 seconds). Gaffe made while in Japan on his "book tour". He had a fresh gaffe just yesterday when he completely lost his cool after being asked by a reporter about allegations that he assisted in torture force-feedings in Gitmo.

Glad you enjoyed the trip report :). Yeah someone I know was floating the idea a Fallout game series addition set in Florida, and I was like uhhhhh it's too boring from a topographical perspective, but we quickly solved that problem with the addition of some massive radioactive craters, of course.

Yeah I just voted in my local election a couple days ago. Won't miss another election of any type, ever. Sending patience back atcha, because I'm worried how scorched Earth DeSantis will go if re-elected governor.

May I please introduce you to the book series “Annihilation” (alongside it’s same-name cinematic adaptation) set in the most bio-diverse location in the U.S.: Florida’s panhandle, the home to Apalachicola National Forest. ‘Cuz while the GOP doesn’t want to recognize climate change, but the USACE sends $7bn to FL for conservation, the GOP controlled state has matched that number in recognizing its value until recently where friends in environmental lobbies are getting laid off for political reasons.

ohmahgawd. Yeah… this guy is doing a world tour while we’ve had the wildest weather. Japan for floodings with no response, Jerusalem for the tornados across the panhandle. And he’s out selling books around the globe when his state has no leadership to guide recovery or conservation efforts. 🤬

I've seen this movie. No, not Annihilation. I'll get to it eventually.
