I am fairly obsessed with Glorb. I do not understand Glorb. As a number of people on Xitter pointed out, the effort expended so greatly exceeds anything reasonable for shitposting that you have to take it seriously. It is internally consistent, chronologically sound and represents multiple styles and voices. I don't know. I hate Spongebob. This is not a musical style I spent much time listening to. And yet.
Apropos of nothing, Glorb has been essentially outed publicly as the semi-famous YNG Martyr Glorb did an interview a few months ago with MoistCritikal, a super famous youtuber, and the internet did its usual sleuthing and compared shots from Martyr's social media and videos to the interview and it seems to line up. If YNG Martyr isn't himself Glorb, its his producer or someone very close to him. That being said, in his latest song 'Guapanese' he drops the line 'I got two acts like I'm Miley C, Miley C' which most people have taken to be an admission that he's Glorb.
When one guy gets Brandy's vocal stems and puts the original producers to shame. Still trying to find a more iconic duo than vaporwave and old TV commercials.
The music industry has entered the chat So I'm going to guess you don't listen to a lot of Brandy. I sure don't. But when I listen to the original Brandy, I hear... Brandy. When I listen to Callum O'Connor's? I hear a bunch of cheese-dick Oberheim ripoff stabs. Now - if you love cowbell? More cowbell. But I would argue that the overwhelming majority of Brandy fans wanted to hear Brandy, and still prefer to hear Brandy. And see - you can go spelunking for all sorts of off brand remixes and they are definitely different? But they are not objectively better. Here's a vocaloid version of A-Ha. is it better? Or just more vocaloid? There are constraints on major label releases that just don't figure on some dude's Soundcloud. Here's my favorite example: 363m views. Quadruple platinum. It is still on the Billboard Hot 100. And it was recorded in three days and mixed in two and the drummer's mom died in the middle of it and had to leave and they pushed that sucker out just in time to meet the pressing deadline. So FORTY FUCKING YEARS LATER Barry Gibb took the multitracks into the studio and just polished for about a month and a half. Now - I fuckin' hate the Bee Gees. All straight men of a certain age have a loathing of disco in their very DNA and it gets no more disco than Stayin' Alive. But I listen to the Serban mix and the hair on the back of my neck stands up. If you're going slag producers, at least know what you're talking about.Still trying to find a more iconic duo than vaporwave and old TV commercials.
Disagree. I think the original mix of "Aphrodisiac" is objectively terrible. But your point about how the vocals aren't up front enough in the Callum mix is taken. Yeah that polished Bee Gees mix is amazing. A mix can really go to shit when too many people get involved, on top of deadlines. I think the best way to work is alone, spread over a long span of time. Just go touch on your mix for a few minutes as often as you can. I do the same thing with composition, sometimes both at once. Currently in a phase of re-callusing my fretting (ha) hand. Com Truise is dope, I'm still kicking myself that I didn't go see him in Austin some time about 10 years ago when he came through TX.
