I see most of this as hyper-audience-conscious art. Once you look at it from that perspective, much of it makes a lot of sense.

Personally, I find little value in this kind of art because it focuses upon a part of human nature that I find little value in. However, on some level, mocking these people means that you can also mock Burning Man attendies, gamers, fantasy football players, scrap bookers, sports memorabilia collectors, or really any other people that spend their time and money on something that they have decided is important.

It's fine to write this art off as uncreative and a waste of time and money. If you are outside of that community, it is a pretty reasonable stance to take. However, I could be holding a $200k baseball card, and not recognize the value in it.
