I'm tempted to write a javascriptlet that takes you to "you": in reality, it would just use geolocation to detect your continent, select a random person on that continent, and "scroll" you to that person, just to give you some scope of the sheer number of other people as you pass them. I think it would reinforce the message about how damn many of us there are if you were reminded that one of those little cartoon figures... is you.
This is especially intimidating on mobile devices.
When I hit the black section and then the red I thought it was actually sorted by race. Then I reached the blue section.
Those are the secret smurf society. It's widely avoided in history and geography lessons.
Dang. There are a lot of us. When I scroll with the arrow on the bottom of the scrollbar, there's no way to tell that it's moving!
Oh man, wow. I thought it seemed to easy to scroll down all the way, but now that you point out the sideways scrolling, this is huge. Also, in case anyone didn't notice, it counts each person if you put your mouse over them. Also, there are a lot of Asian people.
Oh wow, this is really cool. It'd be interesting to see it divided even further into by country.
