- So what’s next? Today we’re excited to announce our newest laptop—the Chromebook Pixel—which brings together the best in hardware, software and design to inspire the next generation of Chromebooks. With the Pixel, we set out to rethink all elements of a computer in order to design the best laptop possible, especially for power users who have fully embraced the cloud. The philosophy of Chrome has always been to minimize the “chrome” of the browser. In much the same way, the goal of the Pixel is to make the pixels disappear, giving people the best web experience.
I have a Samsung Series 5 Chromebook. I like it, but I don't love it. There are a few issues that piss me off to no end. Chief among them is that the thing gets stuck in sleep mode probably greater than 50% of the time. When you buy a $250 laptop, you kind of say to yourself, "You get what you pay for." But spending $1300, fuck that. Google, apparently, can't figure out this sleep mode issue, and its not specific to the Samsung, according to everything I've read, so they will have some upset customers at that price.

Great design but obviously no contender for the kind of Windows 8 laptops we are seeing now. When Google gets into full swing with the pixel line we will see some great machines.
