I have a friend who did just that for two years. He was working with some sort of travel agency as an editor of their website or some such nonsense (his words, more or less). Part of the benefits entailed getting free plane tickets every once in a while. He got to go all over Western Europe, Mongolia, Argentina. The job also required him to travel all over the States. I thought it sounded totally awesome, but he got really, really sick of traveling and quit. Grass is always greener, I guess...
one of my friends is trying to teach english in japan. he's been there before and it isn't as much travel, but he would essentially be paid to live and teach in another country.
I know a lot of people who did this. Recently two of my friends came back from S. Korea. They were there a full year, had a blast. Had more fun in Thailand though, where they spent 2 months before they came home. I have a friend who is in China right now teaching english.
