Someone explains this on /r/dataisbeautiful: Another person clarifies that this has to do with the fact that it was once possible to set up your own custom domain for a subreddit.Ahh. I remember lipstick.com. IIRC, it was a celebrity gossip site owned by Conde Nast that users could submit to. It had it's own color scheme, but it ran on reddit's engine. Even clicking on help on lipstick.com would bring you to reddit's help. So it sorta makes sense that it shows up as a subreddit.
