Because I'm depressed and my internet is down, so I'm on my phone. I never even got to watch Barbarella.
Instead I watched Oz, the mediocre and underwhelming. Its an all right movie. James Franco is awful in it. Otherwise its okay, nothing to be offended over. 5/10, don't watch it. Just watch the original Oz.
The fan pick will be a surprise because of all the fucking ties. Documentary suggestions only count for half. This is due to my bias against documentaries, and my unwillingness to ever schedule one, since every indie filmmaker and their mother makes a documentary when they start. They all want to make the next Supersize Me, its disgusting.
Or a book that may soon be a movie, like Inherent Vice, which is what I've got lined up after Tree of Smoke.
I just finished Tree of Smoke actually. I liked it, but I wasn't blown away by it. Part of it was the details, I've been to the the Philippines and Vietnam quite a bit and am very familiar with the cultures and it didn't feel authentic, even for the time being portrayed. Basically, I couldn't suspend my disbelief and become immersed in it. Also, the use of Vietnamese in the book was pretty bad, but whatever.
Certainly don't intend to judge a book without reading anything but the synopsis, but I really don't approve of airing other peoples' private business to make your book a bestseller (though of course she had enough of her own to talk about, I'm sure). Should I live my life assuming that everything I say or do might be written down by one of my friends later if they or I get famous? Maybe, but that's sort of constraining. That said, I'm sure it's a fascinating book and I'll download it if I get the chance.
But JT, <insert doc here> will open your eyes about <insert issue here>!
Screw opening eyes. Watch fake it so real. It is fantastic, and isn't trying to preach.
