This is interesting, but part of me thinks that self-reporting might be an issue here. For example: 21% seems incredibly high, that is 1 in 5 contacting an official "recently". Part of this is that "recent" is a vague term, but also I think people will lie about this to seem more engaged.21% of American adults have recently contacted a government official about an issue that is important to them in person, by phone, or by letter; 18% have done so online, by email, or by text message.
