I'm curious if other people out there use flattr, or if you thought about using it why you decided not to. I've been thinking about the internet ecosystem a lot recently, and it seems that flattr is what we need if we want to keep the internet closer to what it is.
I know not everyone can give, but I've gotten to a point in my life where I can give $20 a month to organizations and people who allow me to enjoy the internet. I've started out at a lower amount because my big concern is that there just isn't a lot of people accepting flattr.
So, thoughts?
I love the idea, but I haven't seen the button on any websites I like yet, if I did maybe I would use it. I'm surprised content creators haven't adopted Flattr more quickly - I really can't think of any downsides. It even takes guilt away from bloggers etc. who are squeamish about asking for money, as donors pay the same amount no matter how many people they Flattr.
I'm not sure how often I'd use it to flattr other hubskiers, but I definitely would use it to flattr hubski in general.
Just had a snoop. It does seem like an excellent idea, but on further inspection 90% of contributions go to creators. I don't know if this is an unreasonable view, but if a service is based around tiny donations, should it take 10% of it?
The whole idea of this is that if you appreciate a service you should donate to keep it going, it makes logical sense to me then that they'd take a portion of the donation in order to keep flattr around.
