I am saying both, really, but they are very separate questions. Firstly, I'm not a fan of Nolan. I don't think he is a good filmmaker. TDK was OK, but I don't cream myself over it like most people.

But the Dark Knight is a character, and is called that because he's fucking dark. Superman is not. Superman is that antithesis of dark. Moral ambiguity is the domain of Batman, not of Superman. What they have don with this movie is to try to make a fourth Nolan Batman movie and nothing more. Kent's journey through Canada in the beginning of the movie is just a rehashing of Wayne's search for the League of Shadows. Looks like a fucking shot for shot remake, except with worse dialog and worse acting.

The movie completely lacks the lightheartedness that embodies Superman, as well as shits all over the long-evolved mythology of Superman, most blatantly highlighted by the fact that Lois Lane knows he's Kent before he has ever even heard of the daily planet, thusly ruining the Ken-Lane-Superman love triangle that is the most famous comic book story of all time. This movie is shit for a lot of reasons, but I would hesitate to even call it Superman, strictly speaking. Just a ripped retard who can fly.
