And of course, police can deem any assembly unlawful at will, and any public assembly of more than fifty persons that was not scheduled with police more than 8 days beforehand is automatically considered unlawful.
I'm so disappointed in my government. Non-stop environmental exploitation, defunded theoretical science, and now massive restrictions on public freedom. This is not Canada.
Canada is bros with the USA (United Surveillance of America). It is only natural that countries with superior surveillance technology will utilize them to spy on citizens. Imagine you are a king, would you not be curious what your populace thinks of you? You'll probably want to crush dissent as quickly as it arises. Wouldn't want anything threatening you now would we? Personally, I think that particular law is bullshit and nearly unenforceable. There must be a balance in power: Where police have CS gas, water canons, riot gear, the people have resilience, numbers, ingenuity, and communication. The citizen is anonymous until apprehended and formally charged by the state. This is the premise of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and how most of the world should operate. We are changing... the days of law enforcement before were so much more fun. The police had to actually do real police work. They had to investigate, ask questions, move. Now they're just given a warrant to serve. How can these politicians, in their good conscience, accept these legal proposals? How could there be no discourse? Someone once said "The masses are asses." I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but I think someone in a position of power took that quote to heart. Somehow someone got the idea they they are better fitted to "represent" us.
...In the first quarter of the 21st century, previously democratic western States evolved into totalitarian plutocracies, a consequence of the new social media and surveillance technologies, coupled with the erosion of barriers that limited influence of private capital upon political processes.
I don't think wearing respirators or SCBA's are legal during unwinding protests/riots. I'm not a %100, but I don't think local police are going to like being matched. CS gas is one of their top weapon in quelling riots.
