People drink for different reasons. Some drink to help with social anxiety, others drink to mask some sort of pain that exists, be it physical or emotional and some drink because they have a compulsive addiction and need to. If you were to seriously begin deliberately increasing your intake of anything I think a good question to ask is "WHY?" Why do I drink? It very much relaxes me and helps me unwind from what can often be a stressful and very demanding day. However, I'd be lying if I said the other reasons I mentioned weren't all factors at one time or another.
