muting has always felt kinda harsh. I understand its function as a way to protect one's self from trolling, but as some one who has been muted twice (that I know of), it's super off-putting. I wonder how many users we lose because of what might be a misunderstanding?

As a thought - you might consider having the system automatically make your account unfollow anyone who mutes you. For example. I follow you. I upset you with a comment and you mute me. Before you know it, I've got a feed full of stuff that you post, that I am not allowed to participate in. It's just a weird place to be in. Yes, I could just unfollow the person. Yes, I can reach out to the ignorer in mail and try to sort out the misunderstanding - but in the end, you're unable to participate in the discussion.

just some thoughts.
