I like the idea of having an album or artist each post to discuss. Though, I haven't quite found a specific type of genre/music that I enjoy, so I've just been dashing around sampling everything. Which is why I like the idea. So I definitely wouldn't want to lead it (seeing as I'm not that great with determining genre), but I'd definitely participate. The genre tags would be nice to learn/classify music into different genres. The only problem I could see is either having too broad of genres, or too specific. But I guess that could be ironed out with time. I'm just curious as to how the next artist/album would be decided. Suggestions? Just whatever the person who's hosting it had listened to recently? I don't know if making several sub-groups would be the best idea. Since we are already a small community. Nonetheless, I think it'd be a great way to discover music :D
My current idea is to have a person host one album thread every week. It'd be up to the person to pick the album they'd want to discuss. I think we're going to have to ditch the genre tags, simply because genres are too broad and could inspire conflict. The idea I'm positing would allow for diversity of genre type without having that argument of "X artist is really Y genre, not Z genre." Thoughts on that?
That'd be fine. Also, I think commenting about similarity in style or genre for each album/band would be great as well. That way anyone who ends up really liking the ablum can then go on to explore similar artists as well. I'm not familiar with how a book club is run, but I'd assume there are similar books recommended to the current one being read. So yea, not specifying genre would be fine.
Perhaps. As I said, I'm not familiar with much music. I didn't listen to much when I was younger, and more recently I've just been doing maybe 2-3 minute samples of pretty much every artist until I found some I relatively like. So I don't know if I'd be able to come up with good suggestions. But I wouldn't mind doing it once or twice after it gets going.
