What do you people think of there being a sequel to Terraria?
Personally, I don't think this kind of thing merits a sequel, because games like this have always made a thing of adding anything new via updates.
In Re-Logic's defense, they did say in the article that Terraria 1 had its limits, but for some reason it still just rubs me the wrong way.
Terraria was the biggest gaming surprise for me of the last few years. I've put more time into it than I'm comfortable admitting. I hope that 2 adds some quality of life improvements - better multiplayer features, for example. Maybe even persistent servers that aren't player-run. Can't wait to see more.
Terraria never struck me as intuitive or interesting in the first place. Combat mechanics are poor, and compared to Minecraft (which it is often put up against), it really can't compete. I feel that if you want to create a game based on building, you need to give the player more than just two dimensions. 2D can only be interesting for so long, especially when compared to 3D games.
Terraria has poor combat at the beginning, but later on it gets a lot more interesting. Terraria has inferior building, but the combat is more what makes the game, really. I much prefer terraria to MC, but it's just personal preference.
Ehhhhhhhhhh, looking forward more to Starbound. That game looks amazing.
