The Cochrane Collaboration, considered the gold standard in evidence-based medicine, published a review of the research which concluded that, not only does the average adult not benefit from the influenza vaccine, but that the research in this field is tainted.
"Vaccine use did not affect the number of people hospitalised or working days lost," they concluded, adding that "Our results may be an optimistic estimate because company-sponsored influenza vaccines trials tend to produce results favorable to their products."
Doctors who follow the tenets of evidence-based medicine (I am one) should not be recommending the influenza vaccine to their healthy patients.
b_b, Does your hospital require you to get this vaccine?
That was a question for b_b, whom I shouted out to in the comment. You can also see that his response was a link to a former comment he made that I was somewhat referencing in the question.
