Sad, really. Anybody have any good alternatives? I'd rather not use iTunes...it's a little too Apple-y for my tastes, but it might be the only viable option soon. Thoughts?
I downloaded their OS X version back when Ars ran their first article. It illustrated a point: Winamp is a music player while iTunes is a music manager. With over 130GB of music, I need the latter and I need it badly. The former I can do with Quicktime or VLC or damn near anything (honestly, Snapper is the way to go). And I have yet to find a music manager that will replace iTunes, much as I want to.
winamp used to be my go-to media player back in..... well, a long long time ago. nowadays I'd recommend either foobar (very flexible, although it can be a bit heavy modifying it to work the way you want it to) or musicbee. sadly mp3toys stopped developing... back when mp3toys v2 came out it was the best thing on the market, but the developer basically disappeared. :( edit: I currently use foobar with the DarkOne Theme. And it seems like they just released a new version that looks awesome! You can find it here: http://tedgo.deviantart.com/art/DarkOne-v4-360862076 :)
if foobars interface is too minimal for you, then you haven't digged deep enough yet. ;) (psst! http://www.foobar2000.org/components & http://www.deviantart.com/customization/skins/media/foobar20...)
i can also recommend musicbee. It hasn't fallen short on anything that i've needed it to do and it only took a little bit of customization to get it where i want it. I also love the built in format converter and the hard drive in the side bar. really the only thing that gave me trouble was importing CDs, but i figured it out before long (dragging and dropping will place the CD files in your library but they only play when the CD is in your drive. all you have to do is right click and import).
