OK Detroit - What up? He's a Prince. Is he not baseball royalty? Did you have a choice to keep him post free-agency? I know he's only been your prince for two years but the spin on this is that it is exciting... a happy day for Detroit. I don't get it. Have so many more buildings crumbled that you have to let your prince go?
What's the feeling on the street? Another article I saw says there are four reasons why the trade is good for Detroit and six reasons why it's good for the Rangers.
Meanwhile this commercial from 2010 warns the city of what's coming down the line.
Greatest trade ever. I'm not sure what Texas hopes to get out of it, frankly. Prince is a bust, and his best years are behind him. On top of that, he's a whiny bitch who cares about himself a whole lot more than he cares about winning. Defensively, first base is probably the easiest position, and Prince is the worst regular first baseman in baseball (by defensive efficiency), if I recall correctly. Maybe the people in Texas think that he'll thrive in a park that is friendly to lefties who pull the ball. Prince is a fat fuck who is only going to get worse with every pound he adds on. Meanwhile, Kinsler, if he can stay healthy, solves a lot of problems for Detroit. The infield will now be 1b-Cabrera, 2b-Kinsler, ss-Iglesias, 3b-Castellanos (a top prospect) or Peralta, should they resign him. That takes a suspect infield who cost them a lot of runs last year (especially when Porcello, a sinker baller whose fielding independent pitching was great last year, while his ERA was not, a direct result of terrible fielding, was pitching), and makes it pretty formidable. Also, Kinsler is a natural lead off hitter, which gives the a lot of batting order flexibility, in case Jackson slumps, which he does from time to time. I have yet to meet another Tigers fan who isn't super excited about this deal. And I know a lot of Tigers fans. What do you think, flagamuffin?
What do I think. Well, I'm happy for the Cardinals, because this trade almost certainly puts to rest any thought we had of trading for Andrus. Additionally some people think Detroit is now in the market for Freese. They aren't but regardless. Y'all got out of an insane contract, the Rangers got ... a DH? Y'all got someone who won't erect a roadblock every single time he gets on base, the Rangers got 25 home runs for a few years plus a lot of future injuries. Kinsler's peak is long over but he's not going to go into a sharp decline and he can play every day in the field. Your infield is shaping up well. Do you have the money now to keep Scherzer? (Didn't actually read the article I'm assuming it's a straight up trade or maybe some cash to Texas.)
Tigers are eating $30M. Not too bad all things considered. I think sherzer was one of the biggest motivations for making this deal. I hope they make it happen. If not, they still owe Cabrera a big payday in a few years, so they needed the money either way.
