Really stupid move. So dumb that my first thought was that it had to be a "mole". The OWS movement has had some really great moments that galvanize support around them but it's a fragile thing and acts like this do nothing to help your cause and everything to help your opposers.
Really dumb. Flag burning is a symbol of first amendment oppression not a means by which to say that people are "greedy". Dumb.

Stupid decisions are made my stupid individuals. There are always going to be fringe participants who are part of something that they just don't understand. Here in San Diego, the local news team was incredibly deft at finding the pot-smoking, patchouli-wearing person in the crowd who was completely clueless of their surroundings. Needless to say, the message of Occupy was lost on San Diego as a whole.
I agree that the foothold Occupy has is fragile. As we discussed with the Time Magazine person of the year article, the very thing that makes Occupy fascinating and compelling--the voice of 1000's--also makes its message somewhat diluted.

The media is always going to look for those elements because they "sell". That said, you don't have to be all that "deft" to find the guy burning the flag.... he tends to stand out, the media isn't to blame for this one, poor decision making is.
