I don't recall anyone ever mentioning that it was the "rape capital." Suffice it to say, rape is a heinous crime and should be taken very seriously. I will say that when it is proven that someone lies about being raped it should be taken equally as seriously. Lives can be ruined on both sides of that horrible situation. If Missoula's prosecuting attorney is anything less than vigilant in determining the legitimacy of such claims it's a disservice to both the accused and the victim. It's a shame because it is such a great city and should be known for so many great things.
According to the FBI rape has a 8% unsubstantiated report rate. [not necessarily false but without physical evidence] Studies show that only 10% rapes are reported. Taken together this means a person is far more likely to be not accused of a rape he committed than to be falsely accused of one he did not.
