Alright gang, so we've got a good number of people interested so I'm going to go ahead and start installment 1 of the new #scificlub.
The first installment will be on Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky.
I'm making the executive decision to pick this work mainly because
1. it's a quick read
2. it's online and free
3. it's truly a great story-- don't cheat yourself by passing it up
4. at least one other person explicitly voted for it
That said, read it here: http://lib.ru/STRUGACKIE/engl_picnic.txt
Alternate source (with Russian!): http://www.shnaresys.com/roadside/picnic/parallel.htm
Notes: The story was scanned and digitally converted to text, so there are some errors from the conversion (you'll commonly see fl become B, for example), so be aware.
Discussion will be posted one week from this post, Tuesday the 28th.
I'll include a discussion prompt or two, but you don't need to worry about that.
I'm also considering that then might be the best time to discuss the choice for next round. There were ample suggestions in the last thread.

Another story from the same website that could be a good future story to read. http://lib.ru/RUFANT/SAWCHENKO/savchenko_selfdiscovery_ok-en...
I read it not too long ago. You can always discuss it with me if you need to say something about it. I wouldn't be opposed to going into Blindsight head-on, but participation in these clubs is key and shorter material is kinda important. Don't pass on Roadside Picnic though if you can. Seriously, it's one of those things you just have to read. Really well done.
