- An online multiplayer version of the original Pokémon game has sparked an online frenzy as tens of thousands of players have joined, all attempting to control a single character at the same time.
The game was launched on the streaming service Twitch, with its creator hacking together a computer script that turned the website's comment system into a controller for the 1996 Game Boy title.
Commenters simply type in one of the game's eight commands to control the main character (up, down, left, right, A, B, start, or select) but the stream's popularity has proved its undoing, with massive numbers of gamers (reportedly as many as 50,000) attempting to play at once.
Sadly due to being stuck at the same spot, they now edited th mode with a vote for Anarchy (old system) and Democracy, where the most voted move in the last 10 seconds gets performed. I don't think they should've changed it, but at least they made it through the part now they were stuck in for 24h.
Yea, the team rocket HQ has the sliding floors. They were stuck in there for almost a full 24 hours. A democracy system was implemented that allowed them to get past the first half of it. Now they are working on the second half. I think some people are mentioning that they don't need to deal with the sliding floors anymore though.
I wish I had the time to participate or watch, but it's too distracting. I love seeing the community response, though.
I checked yesterday and pokemon red/blue was beating LOL in terms of current viewers, I haven't seen a game beat LOL in terms of viewers in quite a while
