Are you of the opinion we should separate the creator from their creation? Can we still appreciate Roman Polanski's works? I watched "the pianist" before I knew anything about the pedophilia and the movie is very touching.

I can't apply a blanket rule to it. I did see The Pianist, but it was also before I was aware of Polanski's unpaid crime. I will make me much less likely to see another film by him, but I can't say I will boycott for sure. It would depend on the subject matter, and the context. I've read Lovecraft, and would read more. Everyone is guilty of ignorance, and some are victims of time and/or place. Polanski is particularly disgusting because he fled the consequences of his rape where his victim could not. I'd hate to give him any of my money.

I don't like to make hard and fast rules such as "the creator is separate from the creation", because life is invariably more complex, and I am not sure what advantage such a rule would provide. Consistency can be an admirable trait, but not when it's simply for its own sake.

Shortly after seeing Louis CK in Blue Jasmine, I saw him in American Hustle. Almost the same guy.
