Digging the Sun Ra mixtape that was posted on here a few weeks ago - thanks for that, @cgod. Calum 'bo en' Bowen's soundtrack for the indie game Super Ubie Land is pretty rad. Been listening to Suite Bergamasque by Debussy (which includes the famous Clair de Lune). I'm not going to post a link, because there are loads of recordings on YouTube by different people and you'll have to find your favourite one for yourself ;) I'm yet to properly sit down with it (I usually listen to music while doing other things). I'm going on a long bus ride tomorrow so I'll be spending at least 20 minutes of the journey on that. Dr Dre - The Chronic Not sure why I put off listening to this album for so long. So funky. This sort of music is a bit of a guilty pleasure - I'd like to think of myself as a feminist but the lyrics to this stuff is ridiculously misogynist. What do you lot think about this?
Loving the energy of this new hard-electro track by Uppermost - Street Flash Had this sample-based french touch track stuck in my head for a few days now... Cherokee - American Spirit Smooth nu-disco is always relevant. Justin Faust - Love Alive
I'm doing a harmonic analysis and bass transcription of Sir Duke for my lessons. So, naturally, I've been listening to nothing but Stevie Wonder for the past couple weeks. I'm sure you've all heard it but just in case
Been listening to The Sunset Tree by the Mountain Goats over and over again this week. One of my favorite 2000s albums.
There's been a bit of a revival in the past few years, but the new kids have a hard time getting club play if they don't sound like Combichrist or whatever this is, and aren't twee enough to appeal to indie music journalists. There is I Die: You Die though.
Connan & The Mockasins - I Nude You The guitar solos in this song might as well be heroin to me. If you like this I suggest you try a heavy hit of this from the same EP
Routine Involvements because it's the latest release from my record label. We just released this EP yesterday and I love it. Do you like early-era Weezer? Do you like guitar-driven slacker rock? Some of these choruses are incredible, as is the song-writing all around. Love these guys.
Life Without Buildings - The Leanover Scottish math rock from the early 00's. I think the vocals are the most fascinating part of this band. The singer sounds like she's almost rapping in a cooing, rather childlike manner, with a hint of a French accent. Maybe that doesn't sound appealing on paper but I swear it's one of the most mesmerizing sounds I've heard in quite some time.
