Here in the US, the government has lost our faith. So much so, that it has become the motto of the conservative movement: "Don't trust your government, elect us to dismantle it." People mock ignorant politicians, and the political funding for these politicians comes from moneyed interests that have narrow legislative goals. Here in the US, people equate an ineffective government as an argument for less effective government.
