The series follows a cast of 15 men and women who are placed in isolation and filmed twenty-four hours a day for one year. The cast must create their own society and figure out how to survive. The series is shown twice a week, with online streaming 24/7 with 129 hidden and unhidden cameras all over the Utopia compound. The live streams began on August 29 2014, the day when the 15 pioneers will enter Utopia.[3] Over 5,000 people auditioned for the series.[4] Every month, three pioneers will be nominated for elimination -- to be sent back to their everyday lives. The live-streamers will decide which new pioneers get their chance to become Utopian.
-If it were "real" meaning, Hunger Games, some people are going to die from Dysentary kind of real, it would be compelling. From the sounds of it, the only one likely to be suffering that via food poisoning is kleinbl00. -Looks like it's modeled after a Dutch version, I wonder if that was interesting at all? veen, you ever catch the Dutch version of Utopia, the TV show?

See this guy? This guy right here has a gluten sensitivity.

This guy right here has ostensibly agreed to "live off the land" up in Canyon Country.

Know what this guy didn't bring with him?

FUCKIN TEETH

They're running about 1100 calories a day right now. Nonetheless, they spent two hours two days ago arguing in a meeting about how to spend their $500 on groceries. Last week, they bought a 5 lb bag of Sour Patch Kids.

But hey. Today, the cows didn't kick over the milk. First time in a week.

I just laughed -- at all of that. What does it say about us as a society that this show exists?

kleinbl00  ·  3782 days ago  ·  link  ·

Much less than if people were actually watching it.

How do you eat sour patch kids without teeth.....I guess...at least they don't get stuck in them?

thenewgreen  ·  3782 days ago  ·  link  ·

I was thinking the same thing.

kleinbl00  ·  3782 days ago  ·  link  ·

Trust me. It's something to see.

People without teeth attempting to eat things -Now THAT'S a show.

not so far!

Although sitting here, I think I'm gonna go pitch Fox my new series: ANIMALS WEARING GOPROS

(I am borderline delirious)

Yeah, and I got bored in the first minutes. It's sponsored by Hornbach here, a DIY store, so most of the discussions are about what to build and the rest of the time they're slowly constructing things. Whenever they run out of money, they invite celebrities to do a thing and make money for them.

The only appropriate reaction to watching it all is uggghh sighh and to zap away to something less shitty.

In other words, Fox is banking on the kind of high-tech, 24/7 invasion of privacy that Utopians are supposed to eschew. (Microsoft is a sponsor.)
