No mystery here. The FBI is putting pressure on because they wanted an informant. When they didn't get one, they needed to set an example. Modus operandi for FBI & DEA. FUN FACT: Randy Weaver was a dude who fell in love with a prepper and moved to Idaho. To cut loose and hang out, he visited the Aryan Nations every couple months for barbecues and picnics. He was then befriended by a dude at the picnic who, two weeks later, asked him for help sawing off the barrel of a shotgun. The dude flashed a badge, told Randy he had just committed an NFA felony, and gave him a choice between 15 years in prison or informing on the Aryan Nations. Randy Weaver told the guy to pound sand and chased him off his property. Three dead bodies later, Randy and his three surviving daughters (his son and wife shot in the head by FBI snipers) received $3.1m. That was 22 years ago. Nothing ever changes.
What an awful story, all the more so because it's true. Nothing does change, and not a lot of people will read this article or even care. Even if they did care, what's their recourse for effecting change? History repeats itself in this regard because most of our society is too busy watching reality television. The system works just fine, that is until it doesn't for you.
More specifically, the system they told you about isn't the system that is. It takes a special kind of chucklehead to hang out with neo-nazis and take a hacksaw to a shotgun. However, there are a lot of special chuckleheads in the world.
Very tangential, but I have been noticing more recently that my phone is showing reception, but not connecting to shit. Switching airplane mode on and off typically fixes the issue. It's likely an AT&T thing, but I have to wonder if IMSI use could be the culprit at times, especially in Detroit.
Stingrays are a lot more specific and a lot more laborious than just pulling it all at the trunk. If there's someone with a stingray around, that means there's someone nearby considered high profile enough for the FBI or DEA to do a truck roll. Far more likely, your phone is connecting to a tower, but there's so much data flowing through the cellular network that the tower puts you on "hold" to get back to the mothership. This is pretty much Los Angeles from 3:30pm until 6pm M-F. AT&T has a saturated network in particular. If only there were some way to bring usage down.
Yeah, I would put my money on that, but it is an interesting neighborhood. Ironically, that Forbes article featured an auto-playing video pop-up.Far more likely, your phone is connecting to a tower, but there's so much data flowing through the cellular network that the tower puts you on "hold" to get back to the mothership.
