Saw Wilco last night. One of the best shows I've been to in a LONG time. For their second encore, after a lot of the crowd left, they came back out and played an acoustic set. They played California Stars as their closing song. Each band member played a solo. Mikael Jorgenson played a kick ass melodica solo. It was a fun moment.
As for a favorite of mine, I have a soft spot for Theologians and many others but last night my favorite was Via Chicago:
One day them or Tweedy will play within 4 hours driving distance and it will be great. Checked out the setlist from last night and that just looks incredible. Via Chicago is one of their best. So jealous that you saw them. I'm such a sucker for One Sunday Morning <Song for Jane Smiley's Boyfriend>, which might be my favorite song of theirs. I Am Trying to Break Your Heart and Misunderstood are two other favorites. Apparently I like the longer songs.
I've got to say, I can't stop listening to "Tweedy." Their solo album is the best thing I've heard in a good long while.
The venue where they played last night was next to the state fair. As they played this song, fireworks from the fair lit up the sky. It was a pretty awesome moment
Wow! How timely! I saw them in March of '06 at the Charleston Coliseum- great show, but no incidental fireworks.
It's one of the best live shows out there. I've never seen another band more often than Wilco. Well, that's not true... I've never seen a band with tickets costing more than $10 more than Wilco.
