Hey guys, I made this film for a new youtube channel called BBC Raw. It's essentially an collective of amatuer filmakers. Hoping some of you might want to get involved. Email me if you're interested!

Hey, welcome to Hubski! I enjoyed the video, it's an interesting question to ask someone to "draw a terrorist," it's akin to asking someone to "draw a bad guy," in today's day and age. Terrorists are the villains of the day. Those villains have certainly been portrayed in the west as being largely arab. It's a shame but in the US, news sources are essentially entertainment sources, with political agendas and they benefit from having clearly defined enemies. An enemy needs to be "easily recognizable" and therefore, they're always portrayed as arabs or wearing burkas. Many American's, because of news outlets like FOX, will tell you that terrorists are muslims. Those same people, when shown a picture of a Sihk, will tell you they're a muslim. Even in an age of prolific information dissemination, and interconnectedness via the web, people are still largely ethnocentric and naive when it comes to other cultures. Again, people want easy to identify and clearly defined enemies. It's essentially moral laziness. How dare you make me think about who the bad guys are??!! If I see brown skin, a beard or a burkah, they're terrorists! -Sad. I hope to see more videos from you. Feel free to invite others. One question, as someone that has worked with steve on some videos , what is up with the sound quality? I heard a lot of background noise that almost appeared to have been added in post. -Am I wrong? Keep making people think beyond their comfort zone. That's always a good thing.
Thanks tng, glad to be here. Getting to grips with how everything works still but I'm already feeling positive vibes from the community. Really refreshing after the cynicism that larger websites seem to draw in. In regards to your comments, it was precisely these issues that drove me to make the film. I got the idea from some conference notes I found on the internet. Young Muslims were asked to draw how they felt the media portrayed Muslims. The results were, of course, stereotypical "Islamists". You are right in that the general population find it difficult to think about these issues abstractly, they want or prefer simple answers. Education is the key I think. The general poor quality is down to having no budget and poor equipment. We're trying to get more funding for Raw but it's a catch 22 - can't get proper funding without good films, can't get good films without funding. I've invested some of my own money into audio equipment for the next one. Where are you based btw? If you're in the UK feel free to drop me message if want to collaborate. Thanks again for watching and commenting. Feel free to share any videos you make with me!
Thanks for the kind words, really appreciate it. When the guy who runs the bookstand drew a capitalist - totally surprised me! Never thought we would get a response like that. There is alot of stuff I couldn't use as my house was broken into less than two days after filming. They stole my computer, SD Cards, ipad - everything! Lost a bunch of footage I hadn't backed up yet, was really disheartening. Moral of the story - always back up yo shit!
Given the definition, his response seems fair. That was a great answer. I was wondering if you came across anyone that seemed to buy into the current stereotype wholesale. That sucks about the break in. I ought to back up more frequently. :/ Thankfully this place backs up automatically. When the guy who runs the bookstand drew a capitalist.
Thanks lil, I was told by someone on reddit, strangely enough. I lurked a while before hand though. Yeh her name was Claire, she was really nice. All the interviewees were very open, which makes my job far easier!
