What is it with Hubskiers and Les Pauls?! This is the third one. No Strats? Maybe they're too sacred to part with under any circumstances.

When I bought my replacement for the Les Paul (years later) I bought a Telecaster. It's a great guitar but there's something about an old Les Paul, it's heavier and the neck is wider. Love my Tele but I'd gladly hand it over for my old Les Paul.

You a Strat guy?

I'm a Fender man, not really Strat. I've owned a few P-basses, one active and one passive and fretless. I had a Strat and a 40watt Deluxe Reverb, too, but I sold them to buy a fairly massive bass rig. I didn't regret that though, because I never played guitar in a band. I've always been happy just with an acoustic, and I needed the power.

Should I ever find my way to living in the "D", we will have to jam sometime. A good bass player is a hard thing to come by. Plus, I know you're a Beatles fan and there literally is no better bassist to emulate than Paul imo.

Paul is a bass god, but I fear that he's sometimes under appreciated for that aspect, because he didn't play with chopps. His bass philosophy was so far advanced from any rock and roll bassist I've ever heard, before or since. One thing you will never hear in a Beatles song is Paul thumping the root. Root thumping is sacrilegious, IMO, but why is it so tolerated? Bass lines should be composed just like melodies and lyrics, not some afterthought to give some crappy pop song a little more low end. I could go on for hours, but I know I'm preaching to the choir.

I couldn't agree more. I recently bought a bass and I'm trying to get better at being a "bass" player and not a guitarist playing a bass. There's a huge difference and I think you just pointed it out.

Paul will never be appreciated enough for his bass playing because his signing and songwriting always take the spotlight. But also, what bass players are ever fully appreciated? It's a very under appreciated instrument.

In the words of Flea (or his character, at least), "Ja, its not fair."

Nice. Need to see that again soon. It's been too long.
