I half thought this was going to be an article about drinking so much absinthe you cause yourself to be mildly insane, lol. Great post, I love Hemingway.
I love absinthe. I almost always have a bottle in the house, but right now I'm out. Guess who's going to go buy a bottle of absinthe today? He wrote a lot about grappa and strega too. I've had grappa, but never strega. It's on my list of things to try.
Where are you buying absinthe? No wormwood or something?
I love what Hemingway had to say about writing. Usually, I'm not really a fan of any of these "tips on how to be a writer" things, because the process of creating art is so individualized and varied from person to person that I feel like the value of the wisdom that is being imparted to me is lost, more often than not. But with Hemingway, his advice is so universal that I feel like you don't even have to be a writer to appreciate it. He was all about noticing things and understanding them, and I feel like we could all use a little more of that in our lives.
I agree that Hemingways tips were good ones for anyone to adopt, not just writers. I like the idea of being so highly engaged in the moment that you recognize all the details and how those details make you feel. -How differently people exit a taxi cab etc. Hemingway is a favourite writer of mine. I even named my dog Hemingway.
