Part of me wishes that this were true. Can you imagine the other pristine remainder of the globe? It would almost be like a metropolis surrounded by a Garden of Eden. Well, except for the agriculture. I wonder how big that would need to be.

You also have to wonder what the effect upon society and humanity would be. My guess is that people would get along much better if everyone's house was within several hour's travel time.

-An interesting thought. Then again, the Palestinians and the Israeli's are essentially right on top of each other and I'd say there's not a lot of "getting along" happening there.

Sure, but someone moved into that neighborhood.

The point seems to be that people find grievances, whether it's over "holy lands" or Hatfields and McCoys, there's always a squabble. Get 6.9 billion people on top of one another and those squabbles will turn in to battles pretty quickly.

Maybe you are right. However, I've spent time in Beijing, and it is pretty mellow. I'd like to know if there is correlation between war and population density. My guess is that war is actually most likely at a moderately populated level.

I have no data to back this up, but I recall there being a study that showed that the warmer the climate, the more hostile the civilizations. I'll go digging for it -- Not sure about population density though. Animals in captivity tend to get more hostile as their enclosure spaces are smaller.
