Not sure how to feel about the joker
This is more a general complaint about DC's movies than Suicide Squad specifically, but they really need to step up their game here. DC had such a strong push with Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, but their latest attempts simply pale in comparison to the MCU. They're too stuck in the gritty, dark cinematography fad that Dark Knight popularized. I'm not saying they should copy MCU's feelgood action hero romp, but they should really establish themselves outside of their bubble. Basically, I just think they're taking themselves way too seriously, and it's kind of boring at this point.
They tried to do fun with Green Lantern and fucked that up too. The thing about Marvel is the people running the show understand the characters and have an overall vision for the universe. No one creator has more influence than the company so they can tell Edgar Wright to walk and directors in general are interchangeable. Warner seems to know they're sitting on a pile of money and if they understood their characters we'd already have good movies, Dark Knight aside even though that's the one success and they don't even understand those movies
I feel hesitantly positive about the leto joker (and the entire move). The Burton Joker and the Nolan Joker were both smart and calculating, this one just seems insane. I know that the Nolan Joker just wanted to watch the world burn and everything but he always had a plan to go about doing it, unlike this one.
That's a bold statement since you've seen only a few seconds of this Joker. I'll wait till I've seen the actual movie before giving a verdict on this version of the character. I have to say I like the voice (almost sounds like Hamill) and Leto's crazy eyes.
Eh. Jared Leto is a decent actor and this version of the Joker seems to fit the aesthetics of the film. To be honest, I don't know how I feel about the film as a whole. Warner Brothers just doesn't seem to be able to do its properties justice in film, even Nolan's Batman trilogy was a letdown for me.
