- One reason Murdoch is taking to social media and deploying his publishing properties to attack Trump may be the simple fact that he hasn’t been able to control his most powerful media organ: Fox News. According to sources, Murdoch has tried — and failed — to rein in Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes, who, insiders say, is pushing Fox to defend Trump’s most outlandish comments. This week, Ailes told his senior executives during a meeting that Murdoch recently called him and asked if Fox could “back off the Trump coverage,” a source told me. Ailes is said to have boasted to his executives that he told Murdoch he was covering Trump “the way he wanted to.” The implication was that he wasn’t going to budge.
I can't help but think of this in terms of pro wrestling, with Trump playing the heel. Now that he has enough of a lead in the polls (which seems like complete horse shit) he'll get to go to the debates where he can act as punching bag for candidates to make him them look better. *typo edit
Good theory but I do not think Trump's ego would allow him to knowingly do that. Perhaps he is unintentionally playing into that though.
I don't buy it. Trump is a known quantity, one of the most famous men in America. People polling for him know what they're getting, and they would tell you his "strengths" have nothing to do with a presidential debate. If any of the GOP candidates fall into the trap of trying to out-debate Trump with facts, intellectual arguments, etc, they're screwed. That's what he wants, because he knows the people who will vote for him don't give a damn about the content of the debate.
Exactly. Trump fans still dispute Obama's birth certificate as a forgery. They still consider him a Muslim despite a whole lot of evidence that he's very faithfully Christian. And that's even before you consider the hilarity which will be
GOP candidates [...] trying to out-debate Trump with facts, intellectual arguments, etc
He's got the whacko's on the right, what if during the debates he's able to actually do well and start grabbing the rest of the right? He's got two things going for him, he's unabashedly candid and aggressive and he's got his own money. The guy can afford to offend. Americans will eat that shit up all day long. Also, he's going to be able to call out each candidate on things their peers wouldn't dare call out, because they're likely guilty of it too. Frivolous spending in their states etc. I'm not a Trump fan, I can't stand his show or his swaggering assholishness, but I'd be lying if I said that I cannot wait to watch those debates. I think this promises to be the greatest #sillyseason's in modern history.
Colbert will be on the Late Show though, right? He'll have a forum to shine. It's going to be hilarious...... until he actually becomes president and then it's going to be this
